A striking set of four Sigma wall sconces designed by Sergio Mazza for Artemide in the 1960s. Each fixture features a circular nickel-plated brass frame enclosing a deeply molded prismatic glass diffuser with dramatic radial sunburst patterning. The textured glass softly disperses light while creating a sculptural presence whether illuminated or unlit. Elegant from every angle, these versatile fixtures can be mounted as wall sconces or flush-mount ceiling lights. Fine original patina to metal surfaces consistent with age. Italy, circa 1960s.
Sergio Mazza (born 1931) is an influential Italian architect and designer best known as co-founder of Artemide in 1960 alongside Ernesto Gismondi. Trained in architecture at the Politecnico di Milano, Mazza helped define postwar Italian lighting through refined forms, technical rigor, and innovative use of glass and metal. His designs balance sculptural elegance with functional clarity. Iconic models such as Alfa, Delta, and Sigma remain celebrated examples of mid-century Italian modernism worldwide today.
