Striking example of Italian Radical design, this red “Orix” desk was created by architects Vittorio Parigi and Nani Prina for Molteni in the early 1970s. Bold, sculptural, and unmistakably futuristic, the Orix desk reflects the experimental spirit of the era, merging playful form with functional innovation. The desk features a vibrant red molded plastic top with integrated storage recesses, sculpted wave-like pen holders, and a recessed central work surface protected by a clear glass panel. Its chromed tubular steel base provides a sleek structural contrast, emphasizing its modernist lines. An adjustable chrome lamp is mounted directly to the desk, enhancing both utility and visual impact. This piece is emblematic of Molteni’s adventurous period, when the company collaborated with forward-thinking designers exploring new materials and forms. The desk remains a collectible icon appreciated by enthusiasts of Radical Italian design, postmodern interiors, and sculptural furniture.
