Pair of “Lampira” Wall Sconces by Gianemilio Piero & Anna Monti for Fontana Arte

Iconic pair of Lampira wall sconces designed by Gianemilio Piero and Anna Monti for Fontana Arte, Italy, circa 1970s.

Each sconce features a circular wall-mounted structure in molded white plastic, composed of two articulated hemispherical shells that pivot outward to reveal a central opaline glass half-sphere diffuser. The outer plastic elements function as adjustable “wings,” allowing the user to control both the sculptural configuration and the directionality of the light.

When closed, the fixture reads as a minimal circular disc with a narrow vertical aperture. When opened, the two shells separate symmetrically, exposing the softly glowing opaline glass dome and creating a dramatic, architectural play of light and shadow against the wall. The design reflects the experimental spirit of Italian Postmodern and late Space Age lighting, interactive, geometric, and visually dynamic.

Manufacturer’s markings present on the reverse, including Fontana Arte branding and electrical specifications.
