A charming and highly collectible ceramic wall mirror by French ceramist Mithé Espelt, France, circa 1960s.
Known for her whimsical and refined ceramic objects, Espelt produced a celebrated series of small decorative mirrors featuring stylized floral motifs. This example, known as the “Anemone” model, takes the form of a flower with rounded petals surrounding a central oval mirror. The frame is crafted in molded earthenware and finished in rich, glossy glazes in shades of deep red and orange, accented with a sculptural green stem and leaves.
Espelt’s work is characterized by its joyful color palette, delicate modeling, and distinctive craquelure glazes. During the 1950s-1970s she produced mirrors, jewelry boxes, and small decorative objects from her studio in Camargue, often left unsigned and only later widely recognized and attributed to her workshop.
