A striking and rare ceramic table lamp by Georges Pelletier, created in France during the 1960s. This sculptural, totemic form exemplifies Pelletier’s signature fusion of architectural presence, celestial symbolism, and richly textured ceramic surfaces.

The hand-thrown body is adorned with Pelletier’s iconic pierced circular “sun” motifs, each meticulously cut and arranged in rhythmic bands that animate the lamp’s silhouette. The alternating glazed and matte textures, earthy ochres, deep charcoals and warm browns create depth and subtle luminosity even when the lamp is unlit. When illuminated, the perforations cast atmospheric halos of light, emphasizing the artist’s fascination with cosmic and lantern-like radiance.

This example is notable for its monumental scale and dramatic gourd-shaped composition, transitioning from a narrow neck to a rounded mid-section and a weighted base. The surface bears Pelletier’s distinctive tactile finish: layered slip, scorched glazes, and hand-applied incised markings that evoke both Brutalist architecture and Mediterranean craft traditions.

Completed with a tall cylindrical shade in a textured, natural fiber weave that complements the organic ceramic body.
