François Godebski Signed Fractal Resin Globe Sculpture in Amethyst Purple

Sculptural resin globe by François Godebski (1940–1997), France, created and dated 1980. Executed in translucent fractal resin, the work takes the form of a perfectly rounded sphere articulated by intersecting curved seams and internal fissures, producing a complex interplay of light, depth, and movement.

Rendered in a luminous amethyst-purple tone, the resin reveals layered internal textures, striations, and inclusions that shift visually depending on light and viewpoint. This exploration of transparency and internal structure is characteristic of Godebski’s pioneering approach to polyester and fractal resin from the early 1960s onward.

Both sculptural and contemplative, the piece reflects the artist’s interest in geometry, material experimentation, and optical effects. Signed by the artist, it stands as a refined example of French postwar resin sculpture.

François Godebski (1940–1997) was a French painter and sculptor born in Bellegarde, Gard, into a family of artists. Initially trained in architecture in Paris, he later studied painting at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. From the early 1960s, he developed a distinctive body of work in polyester and fractal resin, producing spheres, obelisks, and abstract forms exploring light, transparency, and internal structure. Godebski was also active as an arts organizer and advocate in southern France.
