"Cratère" Wall Sculpture by Leo Nataf

"Cratère" is a circular wall-mounted sculpture by contemporary French artist Leo Nataf. The work evokes a volcanic cross-section or meteorite impact site, composed in pronounced relief with cratered voids, stratified textures, and mineral-like protrusions.

The sculpture is constructed from ceramic, painted foam, and natural lava rock. Porous lava fragments are embedded across the surface, contrasting with modeled ceramic elements and expanses of painted foam that create a rugged, topographical field. The predominantly black palette with dark blue shades enhance the geological character of the piece, while metallic bronze-toned finishes accent select formations, introducing reflective highlights against the matte, absorptive ground.

The interplay of raw volcanic stone, ceramic mass, and manipulated synthetic material creates a dynamic tension between natural and constructed matter. The circular format reinforces the imagery of impact, erosion, and elemental transformation.
